A live-action version of Archie Comics is coming to the big screen, Warner Bros. Pictures said Thursday.
This is the first time in the comic’s long-running 72-year history that Archie and the gang will star in a feature film. With 1.5 billion issues sold, it’s one of the most successful brands in the comic industry.
The film will follow Archie, Jughead, Betty, and Veronica through their small town of Riverdale and allow long-time fans to finally experience their adventures in on the silver screen.
Jason Moore, director of the 2012 comedy Pitch Perfect, is slated to direct the comic book adaptation. Joining him is screenwriter Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who has written for the hit television show Glee as well as the upcoming 2013 remake of the classic horror film Carrie.
There’s no word yet on when production of the film is scheduled to begin.
